Speed Practice

Mummy has been talking about how I'm going to "Group Day" on Friday - I have no idea what this is and she even told me that she has never been to a Group Day before either. It means that we are still doing some speed-training, this is done before my last bottle at night because Mummy gets home from swimming quite late. We practiced calling and following out in the orchard - it's kind of fun as each time I do something really well I get just a few slurps of milk, mmm mmm!

This is what mummy and I won today:

1st - Senior Call & Follow
3rd - Senior Rearing
Giant Cup - Overall Senior Lamb

I feel very proud of "Us" :-)

I'm feeling a bit nervous

It's the evening before Calf Club and I'm starting to feel a little bit nervous about tomorrow. I've never met other lambs my own age or been to this thing called Calf Club before - I hope it's fun. This afternoon when mummy got home I had a nice brush and had my arm (leg) pits wiped again. Tonight I even get to wear a fancy jacket to help keep me clean and warm because it has gotten rainy and yucky again.
I was weighed tonight so that people can guess my weight tomorrow at the Gala. I think I was just the right weight not too fat and not too thin. You will have to wait until after Gala to find out what the magic numbers are.

Wish me luck!

Clean = hay & dirt free

Well I remember again why I don't much like the taller lady that my mummy calls Mum. She held me upside down today so my mummy could use a warm damp sponge to wipe my sweaty armpits (well leg pits) and inside my ears and things. I had been working very hard on keeping them grubby not clean, yuck! Then "That Lady" held me still some more so mummy could gently brush and pull the bits of hay I'd been hiding in my wool for snacks later.
Never mind the moment I go back in to the barn tonight I will stock up on hay/wool snacks again, hee hee.

Training

Training - I'm not really sure what this word means but it seems to involve walking around with mummy on my lead and sometimes without it. Other times she gets her Mummy to hold me (which I don't like much) and then walks away only to call me to her. Often she is hiding a bottle of delicious milk behind her back or some tasty rice crackers.
Mummy says I'm getting better and she will take me to Calf Club soon.
Here is a picture of us doing some practice:

Green Grass

I have discovered that grass is yummy - until very recently I only liked to drink milk and nibble on any tasty items I could snatch as we walked past the veggie garden (people would yell encouragement to me when I did that).
BUT by using my "Keep Trying" Kura Kid attitude I have learned that grass is actually quite tasty. Now I eat lots of it when I am out in the big run or down in the paddocks.

Sunny Spring Days

Even the best laid plans go a little bit wonky when you turn a camera on ;-)

New Friends & BEST friends

The weather has been warmer and sunnier and I've been able to spend more time in the paddock and get to know some of the animals who live near by. The cows are a little bit weird - they like to come and sniff noses and then they get a fright and dance away.

Here is my VERY BEST FRIEND though - I love her and I know she loves me:

Walking with my Mum

Almost every day Mummy and I take a walk as well as our frolicking in the paddocks. We walk down the road (I'm a good girl on my lead) often with my dog too. Sometimes we stop in and chat at friends places - I discovered I like eating purple pansies at Whitney's house, which is lots of fun.
I wish it was school holidays all the time because I get to spend more time with Mummy.

Drench tastes horrible!

Good grief there seem to be a lot of things which people tell you are good for you but which aren't much fun.

DRENCHING
This stuff tastes disgusting but will in theory keep me free from worms and other parasites - hmmm I didn't see anyone else slurping any up.

Super Froth

Milk is one of my absolute favourite things in the entire Universe. I now get three big bottles of about 600ml. I early in the morning, 1 about 2:00pm and a bed-time bottle.
I am very quick to let people know if they are running late with my milk!
When I gobble up my milk I get white frothy lips - cute aren't they?

Prison Break

This morning I made an escape to the "House of Milk". Everyone was very surprised to see me baaing at the door at 6:20 - I was starving!
I had forced back my bed and pushed open my pen door to break free.
I got exactly what I wanted a 550ml bottle of scrumptious warm frothy milk -mmmm, mmmm.

Giant needles for my own good.

Today my evil granddad John stuck a giant needle in to my tender young flesh - he and mummy had to pin me down extra carefully because I'd managed to wriggle away yesterday. They kept telling me it was for my own good and would help to keep me healthy but I'm just not so sure.
I over heard them talking that I was going to get a booster in 4 weeks time - I'd better start thinking of a way to avoid that.

Wild weather

Wow - Mother Nature went crazy over the weekend! We had no power at times and some big trees were smashed down - I was very glad to be safely sleeping in my barn. The best part was getting to play with Tian and my dog in amongst the fallen branches and sampling the yummy eucalyptus leaves.

Busy Days

Most weeks I go to school 2 or 3 days a week. It is exciting and tiring all at once. The drive there is long but I have learned to be a good girl and don't deafen everyone by bleating the whole way. My favourite time is after school when Tian reads me stories and it's nice and peaceful.

The lamb ate my homework

Hmm ...I hear you say, what an unlikely story. Well Miss Bad Baa Baa Oreo had a nice nibble on bits of my school work, her favourite snack were Room 1's Key Competencies Class Needs Analysis and a nice piece of work by one of my newest wee students.

BAD BAD LAMB !!!

Tired lambie

I spend lots of time walking around our garden with my Mum and my dog and racing around the paddocks together. Today I went for a big stroll down the road with them, I had a great time but it made me very tired and I didn't feel like my usual paddock-sprints after my afternoon bottle. All I wanted to do was have a nice nap in a comfy dog bed AND that's just what I did.

More but less

Today I graduated from 5 feeds a day to only 4 feeds a day - luckily the size of my bottles increased.
I now get 4 bottles which are between 450ml and 500ml in size.

Almost too big for nappies

I'm growing bigger every day and the people in my life were talking about how I'm close to being too big for my nappies - that will mean no more inside time. I'm not very keen on that idea! I wonder what I could wear instead?

Hanging out at school

Even when I am busy at school there are still things a wee lamb NEEDS!    MILK - yummy!

First Day of School

Yippee after hearing lots of talk about "School" I finally got to visit today. There were loads of children and most of them were friendly - I used my baa a lot to try and call them as they kept disappearing inside the buildings.

Milk Time - My favourite!

Kissing the electric fence

Today I wanted to try and kiss the fence butt hat did not go as I planned.
As I kissed it leap out and bit me.
Mummy was standing closest so it was her fault.
Still I am never going to kiss that thing again!

My mummy weighed me this morning, I weigh 8.4kg. She said thats about the same as our big black cat called Quarter.

My menu at the moment

In the last day or two I have become a very speedy efficient milk-drinker!

This is what I eat everyday and if I was allowed I would eat lots more :-)

Mostly my bottles are between 200ml and 250ml.

Breakfast 6:15am (before mummy goes to school)
Morning Tea 9:30am
Lunch 12:30pm
Afternoon Tea 3:30pm
Dinner 6:30pm
Dessert 9:30pm (but often earlier so my mummy can feed me that one too)

When mummy is away at school I am lucky that her grandma feeds me - thank you grandma.

I think I'm part mountain goat

My family are getting grumpy with me sometimes - I don't know why? I am only jumping up on to the couch, beds, across the coffee table, on to the TV cabinet followed by nibbling on magazines, plastic bags, the TV remote, edge of the fire, computer cords and tupperware containers.
They muttered something about "...if I don't stop it I won't be allowed inside".

Poor lambie - thats not very loving is it.

Bed-Lamb

Last night I discovered that I can jump extremely high and get just about anywhere the kittys can - the top and bottom of the couch and more importantly on to my mummy's bed. She was snuggling down to go to sleep and I jumped on her stomach to join her. She wasn't very happy when my nappy fell off and I looked like I might have need a wee.
Maybe that's the reason I keep ending up sleeping in the barn?

Using Lambs in Classrooms

Hi - Tian's Mum here.
Miss Oreo Lamb is a great inspiration for work in my year 0 - 2 class, we are currently writing narratives so she became an overnight star:

The tale of Oreo the Nappy Lamb!

On a grotty grey Thursday sometime in August a lamb as brown as chocolate fudge arrived at her new home in the hills of Tauranga. Her name was Miss Oreo because of a white stripe of wool on her forehead like the filling of an Oreo cookie.

Miss Oreo loved to sprint down the hall with her doggie brother, skidding and sliding around the corners, wiping out the furniture. Unfortunately she would get so excited that she forgot to sneak outside for a wee.

After the third little accident her new mummy had a brilliant idea. She fitted a glossy white nappy to Oreo’s fluffy brown behind and there was never another accident again.

Not as tasty as it sounds

Today while I was wandering the house in my lamby-nappy I discovered something important!

"Foodtown magazines don't taste as good as they sound"

I'm in "training"

Now that I've settled in to my new home mum said I have to start some serious training, it does't seem to hard yet (actually I think it's kind of fun). We wander around the garden and paddocks together, sometimes with this green thing joining us together and sometimes just racing around like crazy creatures. HT and I are much better at spronging than mummy is.

Mummy and I off for an adventure together:

My big brother

This is my new big brother - his name is HT, he doesn't seem to hear a word I say but I think he is fantastic. He doesn't even mind the fact I follow him EVERYWHERE! He has a lovely comfy bed that he lets me share and he helps me feel happy and safe, I think I'll include him in "My Herd".

This is our very first meeting (he didn't even laugh at me wearing a nappy). I think we're going to have lots of fun together.

HT has a very comfy bed and he lets me sleep in it with him. Friendship seems to be all about sharing your things.

Hi my name is Oreo

Hi everyone,
My name is Miss Oreo Lamb.
I was born on August 14th 2010 at a place just north of Tauranga called Whakamarama.
I am a dorper x moorit lamb. A moorit means that I carry recessive genes that cause my dark colouring, other lambs like me can be anything from a light caramel colour to jet black.
I was one of triplets so my sheep mum couldn't look after all of us - that's when I got to meet my wonderful new family.

My new family came and collected me after school on Thursday 19th August - little did I know how lucky I was :-). I must say the car journey to my new home in Pyes Pa wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - infact I nodded off to sleep for parts of it. Meeting my family was incredibly exciting and a little bit scary. There is mum of course, her name is Tian, and the rest of her human family, my new big brother - HT (he's something they call a 'dog'), and some growly kitty companions too. Those are my family members who are allowed indoors - I guess there will be others outside too.

Tonight I get to sleep in a dog crate in the bathroom so nighty-night for now,
